Kings, Decrees and Absolutes: Lyrics & Synopsis |
|
Lyrics
The King made rules He called committees And he targeted the fools Who were guilty of swaying the capital
The King passed laws He told his people What he thought to be the cause Those guilty of swaying the capital
And it really wasn't fair So he'd set out decrees and absolutes Against every little single piece of gold
And it really wasn't fair So he set out decrees and absolutes Against every little single piece of gold
Ancient stars unsettling Ancient stars unsettling (me) Ancient stars unsettling Playing havoc with my kingdom Playing havoc with my kingdom
The King took time The pardon came And the moment had arrived When he prayed he could save the capital
To this we're bound The wait, the trouble The people and the crown Now saying that they saved the capital
And it really wasn't fair So he'd set out decrees and absolutes Against every little single piece of gold
And it really wasn't fair So he set out decrees and absolutes Finally believing what he's told
Synopsis
We were a little anxious about the pace of the tracks on the latter half of the album, and Kings, Decrees and Absolutes was one song that re-emerged very, very late in the process. It was in the mixing stage when Andie at Gighouse suggested that we spend a little more time allowing the tracks to settle on our ears. That's when the song flew into my head as an absolutely essential element of the CD. The song tries to convey something of the clash between the secular and the spiritual…the value of all things 'gold' slipping as the value of 'the people' rises… and it's the King who is the first to change in the city! I was particularly pleased with the last verse and how raw we managed to get the final sound!
