Lyrics Days gave away to ways all restless and new There you can find answers that plainly speak a truth Lights are a dazzling in readiness I'll go Stride to feel my feet all ready for the job When its high you'll greet it when its low we'll meet it like we're One Lights are a dazzling in readiness I'll go Lights are a sparkling with many now to show Should have paused before everything Should have paused before everything Check your stars are all out stars Check your ground rules are straight While you wait At Root Mountain Ways I lived for, no purpose and all ill-defined There I can find answers that plainly speak in kind Lights are a dazzling in readiness I'll go Lights are a sparkling with plenty now to show Should have thought before everything Should have thought before everything Check your stars are all out stars Check your ground rules are straight While you wait Should have paused before everything Should have paused before everything Check your stars are all out stars Check your ground rules are straight While you wait At Root Mountain The right degree of fear behind the right degree of hope The right degree of fear behind the right degree of hope Should have thought before everything Should have thought before everything Checked your stars are all out stars Check your ground rules are straight While you wait… At Root Mountain Synopsis Root Mountain was one of the earliest recordings we did. Jon and I had listened to a lot of gentle acoustic albums - 'Quiet Is The New Loud' by Kings of Convenience, 'Nashville' by Josh Rouse - in the preceding months and we wanted to capture that softness alongside a sense of urgency and the theme of transformation. I wasn't sure how the lyrics would work, but by the time we reached the Middle 8, we were convinced that we'd hit the target. And Wayne's bass fills were the final touch. Time spent at the coast in North Wales and Devon fascinated me further with the lyric… the idea that you can see your star so clear from the root of the mountain was like a confirmation that goodness can prevail… but I do always see a glass half full! |
